Americas’ Wood Company is an environmentally and socially conscience Company. Some of our practices include:
50% of our power being generated by our 10kW Solar Photovoltaic System
Using Bio-Diesel in our delivery fleet
Our solid wood and paper waste are utilized for heating our shop
We strive to educate our customers about what actions we feel are the least environmentally consequential. Some of these include:
Buy Local, Use Local. In the hardwood industry this means to use species that are indigenous to your local area. If you buy wood that has traveled thousands of miles that is not environmentally sound.
Utilizing underutilized species – North America is one of the most heavily forested places on the planet. We are rich with many species some of which are exported out of the country because they are valued more there than right here where they are grown. Some of the species include Red Elm, Sassafras, and Sycamore.
Using Lower Grades – Most hardwood sold is FAS grade. From an ecological standpoint utilizing lower grades of lumber has less environmental impact.
We believe that ultimately the consumer is the one who has to take responsibility for their consumption. For us, an educated consumer is a smart consumer and we are here to help you through that process. It’s not a matter of buying yourself into a green life style.
We are not affiliated with the Forest Stewardship Council.
Many of our vendors are FSC accredited. We are not authorized to sell their wood as Certified as we do not have the affiliation therefore the “chain of custody” has been broken.
